(How can I find out from my students the impact of my intervention?) How often?
Here are some comments from my students:
What do you like about Workshops?
- I like it when I get to move up
- I learn a lot in them
- They help me with my tables
- I learn more about Maths
- I learn from them
- They make me clever
- I like being in a small group and we can work independently afterwards, rather than being in a workshop for 45 minutes
- I like being able to have supportive people around me
- I like doing the online followup tasks
- I like the challenge of moving up as high as I can
What don't you like?
- Sometimes they're really hard
- You get grotted if you come late
- Sometimes your other work gets interrupted, which can get a bit annoying
- It takes up some of your SDL time
- I don't like it when they're too hard
- You have to be ready, and if you don't, you get XP* taken off you
- After we've had a workshop we can't necessarily get back to the computer SDL task we were in the middle of.
Conclusion
- Mostly positive comments
- Most of the negatives were about personal organisation - or lack of it
- The comments about them being hard are valid. I need to make sure students understand that they will move up some workshops quickly, while others may take several sessions
- Student feel they are learning
- There is challenge for all
- They like the feeling of moving up, but not the feeling of not moving
- There are still a few computer issues which impact on the class programme
