Managing self (Curriculum Document)
This competency is associated with self-motivation, a “can-do” attitude, and with students seeing themselves as capable learners. It is integral to self-assessment.
Students who manage themselves are enterprising, resourceful, reliable, and resilient. They establish personal goals, make plans, manage projects, and set high standards. They have strategies for meeting challenges. They know when to lead, when to follow, and when and how to act independently.
The Skyscrapers have adopted the idea of being enterprising, resourceful and resilient as well as having strategies for meeting challenges into our camp planning. Using the moniker "Mission Survive" for camp this year has encouraged an appropriate connection.
It has been difficult to allot time to coming up with a considered way to assess students prior to camp, but I don't think it's too late to be relevant. I will try to address it in our Inquiry because it fits so well. Each of those terms is a major content and will need to be discussed and expanded on. I will do that in my next post.
