ePortfolio Questionnaire

I sent out this questionnaire to all caregivers.  I received six responses - fairly surprising.

Here is a summary of responses:

How often do you look at your child's ePortfolio?
2 = less than once a month, 3 = a couple of times a month and 1 = more often than once a week

Do you receive an email when your child has posted something on their ePortfolio?
3 = yes and 3 = no

Do you feel comfortable making comments?
All = yes

Do you see the ePortfolio as a useful way of demonstrating what your child is doing at school?
All = yes

What would you like to see more of in your child's ePortfolio?
Interaction with classmates. Understanding how they are taught to arrive at answers. ESP mathematical, so different problem solving than when I was at school.

Other than that, I love this tool! It's a great pick me up when I'm at work to see what she is doing and makes me feel as though I am more involved and aware of activites and doings. Thanks so much for this!
We are happy with what we see. Samantha is doing so well in your class and loving her self directed learning. Thank you :-)
weekly summary of new things the child has learnned
I think the whole iniatitive is really good and I need to spend more time learning about what specifics topics she is learning so I can generate conversation and motivation with her.

What are the barriers to making regular comments on your child's ePortfolio?

I'm don't get emails when it's updated
None
I comment when I get an email alert to say Samantha has added something to her portfolio, otherwise I forget to check her portfolio
I'm don't get emails when it's updated
I can't make comments for some reason
Get email updates at work which is great, but access denied by my workplace so I cant make an immediate comment on what I have been emailed, too busy when I am at home and dont think of it unless I am at the computer with Alex and he is showing me something.
Pretty positive, though six responses is far from enough to draw detailed conclusions.  Despite changing the sharing settings, the fact that half of the respondents were receiving emails when student ePortfolios were updated.  Great when it is working though - I especially like the idea that parents are able to get updates while they're at work and make immediate comment.  Clearly further work is needed to try to enable parents to get those updates and make comments - an issue we've had for years now.

I'm keen to somehow connect ePortfolios with our Google doc self reflective SDL practise next year.   I'll need to think about how that could happen because I don't want to create extra work around the administration of ePortfolios and Google docs.
