Ongoing Monitoring and Reflection

What happened as a result of the teaching, and what are the implications for future teaching?

I had a nearly 100% attendance at the after school sessions about SDL. The only ones absent were a couple who were in LC13 last year. I was able to inform them about Personal Investigations and ePortfolios at the same time. I had excellent feedback - the sessions were really appreciated.

Hi everyone
The new year is now well underway and your children will be talking about classroom matters that you may be finding perplexing!
The more you understand about how things operate, the more you will be in a position to help your child.  So.... I would like to extend an invitation to you to come and learn about how things operate in our classroom.  Subjects covered will include...
  • SDL (Self Directed Learning)
  • Quiddage
  • Home Learning requirements
  • Personal Investigations
  • ePortfolios

This will take place in LC13 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week straight after school and Tuesday at 5.30.
Please let me know which day you would like to come.  It would be great if your child could accompany you.
Kind regardsTerri Currie

I am in regular contact with parents. They are texting me the sorts of things they would formerly write notes about. I have no problem with that though, as it is a direct and quick way to make contact.

I have enabled group email so I can contact everyone with one email

Hi everyone
I hope there are no computers on and you're all enjoying some time outside with your families in this stunning weather :)

I've let the students know, but just in case you haven't seen it in homefun diaries - can they bring their library cards tomorrow for our visit to the mobile library?

Also they will need their Walkathon sponsorship forms with 10+ sponsors if they want to be in the first spot prize draw.

Programme change information

We have a busy week which includes an international cultures day (Monday), Assembly (Thursday 12.30) and a guest speaker (thank you Konstantin Zharkov, from Russia)!  Therefore I have scaled back the SDL component accordingly.Have a great week, everyone.

Subject: gmail passwords

Hi everyone
We had an instance of one of my students receiving an inappropriate email from another student's gmail address.  I am quite certain that someone else sent the email while the computer had been left logged on.

It would be really helpful if you could talk to your child about internet safety - especially not leaving public computers logged on and never giving out their email address without first checking with their adult.

This is also a good time for your child to change his or her gmail password.  We have discussed all this in class, but it would be excellent if you could support these important factors at home.

Many thanks

If students have left their Homefun diaries at home for more than a day I text a reminder to their parents

I can push some of my own propaganda i.e. why it's important to read for 20+ mins at home each night, what to work with their children on in basic facts

Hi everyone
We have started multiplication and division this week for Numeracy.  Students are at a HUGE disadvantage if they don't know their basic facts.  For many the only way to learn them is by rote!  The internet has many online games to practice, but it generally comes down to pure repetition.

Most days your child will bring home a tables sheet.  47/50 in three minutes is a pass. It would be really helpful if you could sit with your child and help them to rote learn the ones they don't know.  Feel free to celebrate the times the times they pass :)
Thanks for your support.
