Ideas for being creative - Wikihow
Alan, my very creative brother in law, often goes off on tangents when we're chatting. We may be talking about the usual subjects when he throws in something from left field - bizarre... odd... always interesting. In the past I pulled him back or told him not to be ridiculous. At some point he begged me to just let him go down the path. Don't try to put a reality spin on it, just let it go and see where it went.
This rang a bell in my head, with my class. In the last three or four years, especially during roll call, I've allowed diversions. Very memorable was the year of the (invisible) rainbow coloured 'friends', who developed full personalities and odd characteristics. And the kids love it.
